PINCHON Robert 1886-19433)
"Twilight on the cliffs in the Pays de Caux"
Oil on canvas signed lower right Salissures.).
High. : 65 cm x Width. : 81 cm
Post-impressionist painter of the School of Rouen, Pinchon is also associated by his taste for synthetic drawing and high colors with Fauve artists. He participated in the Salon d'Automne in Paris in 1905 and 1906 which marked the beginnings of Fauvism. In 1909, he founded with Dumont, Hodé and Tirvert the "Norman Society of Modern Painting" which invited Braque, Matisse, Dufy, Vlaminck, Derain, Marquet, Friesz, Picabia, La Fresnaye to its events.
The Rouen Valley, with its bridges over the Seine, variations in light and atmosphere are his favorite themes. From Rouen, he also travels the Normandy countryside and the chalky coasts of the Pays de Caux. In the impressionist tradition, the solar halo and the colored clouds here blur the borders between the coasts and the sea while a foreground of flowering herbs treated in full paste violently streaks the twilight landscape.
