Each signed lower right. 72 x 100 cm. Literature: A pupil of Pierre Letuaire, he appears at the Paris Salon from 1828 to 1849 and obtains his first prize in 1835. This naval administration officer travels across the oceans and paints romantic seascapes with a range of dark and light colors in opposition. Our paintings represent the one- and two-deck frigates, L'Estoile and La Belle Poule, which are represented in turn in the foreground and in the background. The navy in calm weather illustrates the two frigates in the port of Toulon. The boats are painted before the departure of La Belle Poule on July 7, 1840 for the island of Sainte Hélène.élène.
After a long journey, La Belle Poule docked on November 30, 1840 in Cherbourg with Napoleon's ashes on board.
